Forty minutes south of Agadir, on the edge of Souss-Massa National Park, the sand runs out to meet the sea. Dunes, low cliffs and rock give way to a beach where wooden fishing boats are pulled up on the sand, painted in the colours people have always painted them.
Tifnite is a working village, not a set. Boats go out and come back, and the day runs on the tide rather than on visitors. That is exactly what makes it worth the short drive.
Because it is close, this is the easiest of our trips to fit into a holiday — a half day that gets you properly out of the city without eating it. Come in the afternoon and stay for the sunset over the water.
What makes it special
- Sand dunes running down to the Atlantic
- A working fishermen village with traditional painted boats
- Cliffs and rock formations over the ocean
- On the edge of Souss-Massa National Park

When to come
Good all year round. We plan the timing around the wind rather than the season.
What to bring
- Comfortable clothes
- Water
- Sunscreen
- Sun hat and sunglasses
- A windproof layer
Good to know
- We avoid the windiest part of the day — wind on this coast picks up fast and makes the dunes unpleasant.
- This is a working fishing village. We ask before photographing people, always.
- The park is protected. We keep to the tracks and take everything out with us.
